Setting

I did some research around school and managed to find a clearing in the woods which would be perfect for our setting, because there are trees surrounding it, but a big enough space it to look like a party.

Codes & Conventions of Genre

Different types and styles of music are divided into genres - or categories - to show what style of music they are. The genre is reflected in their music videos via the editing, camerawork and mis-en-scene.

Our band, the Prodigy, belonging to various genres including electronica, synthpunk, rave, dance-rock and alternative rock.

In order to show this, we have chosen to represent/use the following things in our music video:
- a dark, sinister setting (shows it is not a sugary sweet pop video)
- the performers will be mainly in black/edgy clothes
- the props are going to contribute the hedonistic/pyschadelic atmosphere (unrealisitic and trippy like their from a dream)

Our camerawork will consist mainly of a lot of low angle and close up shots of our performers to show they have dominance. We will also use the camera hand held for a lot fo the video in order to create that grungy, dark, organic look.

The editing will be very fast cuts, slow and sped up motion.

Props List

These slides were made by another member of my group, who was in charge of the props list putting them on the blog in this format it is easy to see which props we n and also the overall look we are trying to achieve.

Costume List for the Woods

The costumes are supposed to reflect the mad/dream-like theme of the video. The fact that the costumes don't have much relevance with each other but are all out of the ordinary and have fantasy elements, but with sinister twists such as the creepy masks and full gold body paint. In researching the costumes I used search engines such as Google images, and ebay to see if I could source them easily.

Research

For our woodland scene, we were worried about how we could create that mythical, fantasy atmosphere. On researching some videos on Youtube, we found some which fit the criteria and kind of look we are hoping to achieve in our video.

This video is the Smirnoff advert.
The things that appealed to me in this video was the darkness interjected by candles and fair lights. I also liked the costumes and masks making the whole thing a bit like a creepy fairytale.

Florence & The Machine - Dog Days are Over
The idea that she is being followed by these weird, clown-like people is the similar to our idea of the girl being stalked and watched by the people in the wood. ALso, the setting is the same, giving us a good idea of how we could create variety with shots.

Foster The People - Helena Beat
Whilst the setting is completely different, the idea of the supernatural and wierd being integrated with a normal person comes across in this video, in terms of costume and make up.
